Fairmont explosion under investigation, man hospitalized with burns from incident

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — An investigation is underway into an explosion at a Marion County home that hospitalized a man.

State police said they responded to a Wine Drive residence in Fairmont Monday night at around 10:10 p.m. Troopers said that the home sustained ‘significant damage’ because of an explosion that may have occurred because of a gas leak.

Stephen Overstreet, 29, of Fairmont, suffered injuries in the explosion and was taken to a Pittsburgh, Pa. burn center for further treatment.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and circumstances around the explosion.
