One man, two dogs die in Fairmont fire

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Authorities say a man pulled from a burning residence in Fairmont Wednesday afternoon has died.

The victim, 35, died from injuries suffered in the fire in the 400 block of Montgomery Avenue along with 2 dogs.

Despite heavy fire, firefighters conducted an interior search and located and removed the trapped victim. Crews and members of the Marion County Rescue Squad conducted life-saving measures at the scene that were unsuccessful.

Authorities said a woman and two children were alerted to the blaze by barking dogs and were able to escape through windows.

The woman and children were treated for minor injuries.

The fire was brought under control at 2:47 p.m., but rekindled later in the evening, resulting in another response.

Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office and Fairmont Police Department said initial indications point to an accidental cause of the blaze.
