Poca’s Noah Frampton signs with Marshall as preferred walk-on

POCA, W.Va. — Poca basketball standout Noah Frampton capped off his senior year on Friday by signing to a preferred walk-on spot with Marshall.

The 5-foot-11, 190 pound guard helped lead the Dots an undefeated 27-0 record this past season and Class AA state championship.

“Today was pretty special, it was a great day,” Frampton said. “I want to thank my family, coach (Allen) Osborne and all of the Poca supporters. They all really helped.”

Sophomores Luke Frampton (Noah’s younger brother) and Elijah Cuffee received most of the recruiting attention as Division I prospects for the Dots, but it was the elder Frampton who led Poca with 27 points in the state championship game against Fairmont Senior.

Marshall’s coaching staff offered Frampton the invited walk-on opportunity after initially coming to watch his brother and Cuffee.

“The title run was amazing,” Frampton said. “I have the best coach in the state and he has helped me from the beginning. I had some really cool moments this season, like breaking my dad’s steal record, getting into the 1,000 point club and winning the state title.”

That championship win was even more special for the Frampton brothers who dedicated the season to their father (Bryan), who passed away in December of 2013 following a battle with cancer.

Bryan Frampton, who also wore the No. 34 during his playing days with the Dots, guaranteed his sons would win a title together.

“My dad promised it to me before he passed away and I really wanted to do it for him, my family and the whole community of Poca,” he said.

And his father certainly would have been just as proud of Noah’s signing on Friday — even for a Kentucky fan.

“He would be really happy,” Frampton said. “I don’t know if he would like the (Marshall) green, but I think that he would (let it slide).

“I’m just looking forward to getting there and meeting my teammates,” Frampton said. “I’m just going to work hard and do my best. Anything can happen and I’m just excited to get in there and work with them.”

As for where his brother ultimately lands with his eventual college decision?

“I’ve told him to pick the school that he wants,” Frampton said. “Don’t let anyone influence your decision. Just because I’m going to Marshall doesn’t mean that he has to. He needs to pick the college that fits him best and do what he wants to do, not what other people want.”
