Latest water line break repaired in Dunbar; company apologizes

DUNBAR, W.Va. — West Virginia American Water Company announced Tuesday afternoon crews had completed repairs on a 36-inch water transmission main near state Route 25 in Dunbar. The break was the third in less than a week.

“The past week has been difficult for our customers and our team, and having to make extensive repairs multiple times is not what we want for our customers,” WVAWC president Jeff McIntyre said in a statement. “We apologize for continued inconvenience to customers impacted by this repair and remain committed to restoring full water service to our customers as quickly as possible so they can resume their normal lives as we approach the holiday weekend.”

The latest break impacted approximately 3,000 customers according to the company. The breaks last week cut off water to about 25,000 customers from Dunbar west into Putnam County and parts of Cabell County.

The customers in elevated areas like the Red House/Grandview area, Tyler Mountain, Cross Lanes and Nitro including the Nitro Marketplace and Lakeview Drive would likely be the last customers to get full service following the latest repairs.
