Woman jailed after using box cutter in attack

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Police say a woman who attacked another woman with a box cutter Monday evening wanted to know if the victim was still alive.

Clytie Shrewsbury, 34, was charged with attempted murder and malicious wounding after the attack of Tiffany Laurens, 37, at the China Buffet in the Shops of Kanawha at around 6:20 p.m., Charleston Chief of Detectives Lt. Steve Cooper said.

Clytie Shrewsbury allegedly attacked her former boyfriend's new girlfriend.
Clytie Shrewsbury allegedly attacked her former boyfriend’s new girlfriend.

It was a violent attack, Cooper said.

“She just approached her in that restaurant and attacked her. It was just a brutal attack,” Cooper said. “She was sliced from her temple to her chin to her neck, to the other side of her face. Her shoulder was all carved up. A box cutter can do a lot of damage.”

Laurens has been dating Shrewsbury’s former boyfriend, Cooper said.

“The suspect didn’t say much other than to ask if she (Laurens) was dead. We have connected the dots that there’s a potential love triangle there, a scorned ex-girlfriend,” Cooper said.

Shrewsbury was still at the restaurant when police got there.

“She was restrained fortunately by a customer and several others came and helped hold her down until police arrived,” Cooper said. “We recovered the weapon.”

Laurens is being treated at CAMC General. Shrewsbury is in the South Central Regional Jail on $50,000 bail.
