WVU student accused of stabbing roommate

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — An altercation between roommates landed one man in the hospital and a West Virginia University student in police custody.

De Andre Joseph Mitchell, 19, of Hagerstown, Md., was charged with a single count of malicious wounding after allegedly stabbing his roommate.

Officers arrived at a residence on Grant Avenue around 4:30 p.m. and found the victim had been stabbed in the leg with a knife. The victim told police that Mitchell had fled the area on foot after the incident.

Mitchell was taken in custody later in the evening when he returned to his residence.

The victim, who was treated and released from Ruby Memorial Hospital, was not identified.

Mitchell is listed as a student at WVU
