Wyoming County man charged in death of second shooting victim

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Wyoming County man charged with first-degree murder in connection with a November 2016 shooting was charged Thursday with a second murder charge.

Michael Kennedy, 32, allegedly shot and killed a 16-year-old during a home invasion in McDowell County on Nov. 27. The child’s mother, Jessica Daughtery, was also shot and injured.

Kennedy was Daughtery’s estranged husband, and the juvenile was his stepson.

Kennedy was charged with first-degree murder and malicious wounding among other charges in November.

Daughtery died at the Golden Harvest Nursing Home in Welch. According to the State Medical Examiner’s Office, her death was connected to her injuries.

Kennedy was also the suspect in the death of Eunice Charlotte Daughtery, 73, of Coon Branch Mountain. Eunice Daughtery was seriously injured during a home invasion on Oct. 5, 2016, and died later that month.

Kennedy is at the South Central Regional Jail in Charleston on a $300,000 bond.
