D.C. murder suspect arrested in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A man wanted for murder in Washington D.C. was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service in Morgantown Tuesday.

Demarius Anton Jackson, 24, was arrested without incident near Wall Street in downtown Morgantown around 12:30 p.m. He has been charged with second degree murder while armed in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

Jackson is accused of shooting Javier Amaya-Olivares on July 8, 2017. Amaya-Olivares died as a result of the shooting. The US Marshals Capital Area Fugitive Task Force began searching for Jackson soon after the shooting, which led the investigation to Morgantown.

The Metropolitan Police Department investigated the case in Washington D.C.

The Morgantown Police Department assisted in the arrest of Jackson. He has been arraigned in West Virginia and will be returned to Washington D.C. by court order.
