Mountaineers add 6-foot-7 lineman to 2019 pledge list

At 6-foot-7 and 295 pounds, Donovan Beaver is a three-star offensive tackle prospect from Spotsylvania, Va.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Donavan Beaver knew West Virginia was seeking to stockpile offensive linemen in its 2019 class, so on Sunday he became the first to commit.

The 6-foot-7, 295-pound tackle from Spotsylvania, Va., is a Rivals three-star prospect.

Virginia and Virginia Tech were the first to offer, before a flurry of Power 5 programs jumped aboard, including Florida, Louisville, North Carolina, N.C. State and Pitt.

Ultimately he became the Mountaineers’ sixth overall commitment of the cycle.

“I like West Virginia because I like the coaches, I like the campus and I love Morgantown. It’s one of the coolest places I’ve ever been,” he told Rivals.

Beaver proclaimed his recruitment “over” and told the Fredericksburg Free Lance Star that he wanted to make his choice before classes began filling up this fall.

With fifth-year senior Yodny Cajuste and redshirt junior Colton McKivitz slated to be the starting tackles thus upcoming season, Beaver is the first step in replenishing for the next phase. WVU is expected to sign at last four offensive linemen in this class.

Offer out to 2020 nose guard

Rivals reported that over the weekend the Mountaineers extended an offer to Maryland 350-pounder Jonathan Wallace, class of 2020 a run-stuffer from St. Frances in Baltimore.

Florida, Michigan and Wisconsin have begun recruiting Wallace and other Power 5 schools are expected to join the pursuit.
