Interstate traffic slowed by wrecks, fire Friday morning

BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. — Motorists were backed up for miles on both Interstate 77 and Interstate 64 in different areas of West Virginia Friday morning.

Three vehicles were involved in a crash in the northbound lanes of Interstate 77 near the Kenna exit in Jackson County. Both lanes were closed for a couple of hours.

One person was injured, according to police.

The lanes were reopened by 8 a.m.

A number of military personnel had to evacuate from a bus after a fire Friday morning as they traveled on Interstate 64 in Cabell County near the Merritt’s Creek exit. Westbound lanes were closed from about 7:30 a.m. to almost 9 a.m.

The back of the bus caught fire first and spread to the passenger area, authorities said.

The military personnel were able to get off the bus safely. They were heading to Indiana. Another bus was being brought in to continue the trip.

A member of the Barboursville Fire Department suffered a minor injury.
