Starks reflects on Classic experience

West Virginia professional angler Jeremy Starks finished his first Bassmaster Classic in 43rd place with a two-day total catch of 17-pounds, 4-ounces.  It was a disappointing showing for Starks who’s finishing as a full-time pro for only his sixth season.

“The unfortunate thing was most of the guys caught their fish shallow, I like to fish deep and have more confidence in that,” said Starks after the Day 2 weigh-in. “That may have hindered me a little bit and I may have made some bad decisions.”

Despite the disappointing showing, Starks is only the third West Virginian to ever qualify for the Classic and the first to do it as professional angler.

“Greg Hackney told me there’s only 550-some people who made the classic so just to be there is really special.” said Starks.   “Making the Classic is a huge step, it’s something they can’t ever take form you. Now when they introduce you it’s a past champion and Classic qualifier and that’s very special to me.”

Starks has won two tournaments on the rugged BASS Elite Series trail.   The 2013 season begins in a few weeks.  Starks leaves Tulsa bound for Sabine River in Texas.

“I’ve never been there.”  said Starks. “I have no idea what we’re getting into there.”

The hallmark of the Elite Series however is being able to enter a body of water blind and quickly break it down and unlock the pattern for fishing in only a few days.  Starks is ready for the challenge.
