CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A Barbour County man will be on home confinement for a year after he caused a chain reaction crash a year ago in Harrison County that claimed two lives.
Dexter Skidmore, 28, of Belington, who was driving the water tanker truck last year, was sentenced Friday after admitting to two counts of negligent homicide, misdemeanors.
Skidmore could have been sentenced up to two years in jail but Harrison County Magistrate Mark Gorby decided on home confinement. Skidmore’s attorney sought seven years of probation.
Skidmore apologized at Friday’s hearing.
The June 2018 crash at the intersection of U.S. Route 50/state Route 98 claimed the lives of Michael Ray Moore, 48, and his daughter, Braylie Moore, 17, both of Shinnston.
Skidmore drove the truck into traffic that was stopped at the intersection causing the chain reaction crash. He had only been driving the water truck for a few days for Braddock Construction Co. of Frostburg, Maryland, when the crash occurred.
The Moore family has filed a civil lawsuit in Wetzel County against Braddock and Antero Resources.
