Police in Logan County investigate stabbing death

CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — Two brothers who had historically a hard time getting along had their final dispute on Monday evening.

Police in Chapmanville were called to a home on Salem Boulevard around 9:30 p.m.

“They found one subject, Harold Toney, at a house next door and he stated he stabbed his brother and his brother stabbed him,” said Chapmanville Police Chief Alan Browning.

Harold Toney, 57, was bleeding from a stab wound he suffered in the fight. Back at the home the two brothers shared next door, his brother Larry Toney, 55, was dead of his stab wounds. Harold Toney told police his brother stabbed him first, he took the knife away from his brother and stabbed him.  Larry’s wounds were fatal.  Harold is being treated for his wounds, but is expected to survive.

It’s unclear what the two were fighting over, but Browning indicated the police department is familiar with the brothers and have been to the home many times in the past.

“We’ve been there on numerous occasions,” he said.

Once released from the hospital, Harold Toney will be charged with second degree murder.
