DHHR reports active COVID cases nearing 1,500

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Confirmed COVID-19 cases in West Virginia increased by 111 Saturday morning in numbers released by the state Department of Health and Human Resources.

The state has now had 4,894 confirmed cases since the pandemic began. As of Saturday morning, 1,499 of those cases were considered active.

The state’s daily positive test rate is 3.47 percent and its overall positive test rate 2.17 percent. There have been 225,385 tests recorded in West Virginia since mid-March and 100 deaths.

More than half of the 69 people currently hospitalized for COVID-19 are in intensive care, 15 of those patients are on ventilators.

Monongalia County has the most active cases at 384. The DHHR said 52 percent are between the ages of 20-29.

Free and open testing events were happening Saturday in Berkeley, Jefferson and Monongalia counties.
