MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia University on Monday announced it has selected five school students for its West Virginia University Foundation Scholars program.
The Foundation Scholarship is open for West Virginia students who have a minimum GPA of 3.8 and a minimum composite score of 31 on the ACT or an equivalent SAT score. When paired with the state’s PROMISE Scholarship, the Foundation Scholarship’s value is more than $90,000 over four years.
“I am energized each spring as I meet our latest cohort of Foundation Scholars,” institution President Gordon Gee said. “They inspire me with their dreams. And at West Virginia University, we will give them the tools to achieve their aspirations to build successful careers and make breakthroughs that will extend beyond the borders of our state to the rest of the world.”
Each student will enroll at West Virginia University in the fall:
— Daniel McDonald, a student at Morgantown High School, wishes to pursue a career in which he can develop assistive technology. He plans to study mechanical engineering and biomedical engineering.
— Laasya Chennuru, a Martinsburg High School student, wants to study biochemistry and become a pediatrician. She also plans to study psychology, medical humanities and health sciences.
— Lilah Coe is finishing her studies at Herbert Hoover High School. She is looking forward to studying biology as well as joining the West Virginia University Track Club.
— Emily Escue is a student at South Charleston High School. She wants to major in biochemistry and transform care for women and underrepresented patients as an obstetrician-gynecologist.
— Isaac McCarthy will graduate from Musselman High School. He plans to study music and health, and wants to join the university’s concert band and other ensembles.
