New casino opens in Maryland

Rocky Gap Casino Resort

Casinos in West Virginia just got additional competition from Maryland.

On Wednesday, Rocky Gap Casino Resort located in Cumberland, MD announced that it has opened to the public and will now be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The announcement comes after the casino received approval from the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency.

The casino features around 550 slot machines and 10 table games.

Along with construction of the new casino, the resort renovated its lobby, hotel rooms, restaurants and Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. A new event and conference center is scheduled to open later this year.

The new casino is located about an hour from the Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races in West Virginia.
