Mountain State Art & Craft Fair celebrates 60 years in Jackson County

RIPLEY, W.Va. — For the last 60 years, the Mountain State Art & Craft Fair has been held in Jackson County.

Vendors will be at the Cedar Lakes Conference Center in Ripley showcasing their work Friday through Sunday.

The fair, known as “The Granddaddy” of fairs, dates back to the state’s 100th birthday celebration.

“In 1963, it was meant to be a one year celebration as part of West Virginia’s centennial. It went over very well and had such a great response, so they brought back the next year. Now, 59 years later, it’s still taking place at the Cedar Lakes Conference Center,” said Mike Ruben, director of the Ripley Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The fair was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and brought back in July 2021.

Vendors display handcrafted items during the three day event including pottery, baskets, bird feeders, jewelry and more.

In addition to crafts, the event includes music and food concessions.
