Bridge to popular Coopers Rock overlook closed

BRUCETON MILLS, W.Va. — One of the most iconic views in West Virginia won’t be available to the general public for the forseeable future. The West Virginia State Parks this week closed the pedestrian bridge linking the main overlook at Coopers Rock State Forest to the parking lot.

A release from the Park Service said the bridge has been closed and will be off limits until further notice. The bridge, accordin to park personnel is in need of structural repairs. There was no indication of whether those repais were in the works or if there was a target date for their completion.

The overlook is a very popular spot to get a view of the Cheat River below since it sits only a few hundred feet on a level walk from the parking lot to the overlook.

The forest does have a second overlook at Raven Rocks. However, that view requires a 2.1 mile hike and is consider moderately challenging for a walk.
