HAMLIN, W.Va. — A Lincoln County mother and son are charged with arson in connection with the weekend fire that destroyed a dugout and storage shed at the Lincoln County High School baseball field in Hamlin.
State police arrested Lisa McClure, 57, and Curtis Mooney, 32, at their home in Griffithsville Tuesday night.
The pair is also charged with destruction of property and conspiracy. They are expected to be arraigned Wednesday morning.
Police used video surveillance in the investigation.
The structures were torched early Sunday morning.
Lincoln County School Superintendent Frank Barnett told MetroNews the equipment destroyed was worth approximately $26,000.
Barnett said the fire is upsetting because of the personal harm it caused.
“What’s bothersome to us is that to lose something to a natural disaster is bad enough, be it a tornado or a flood or something of that nature, but to lose something to what was quite possibly a malicious act–that takes it to a different level. It now becomes personal,” Barnett said. “There’s never going to be a good reason to destroy someone’s property.”
There was no word Tuesday night on a possible motive.
