CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Northern counties in West Virginia are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. Friday.
The National Weather Service has included Barbour, Brooke, Doddridge, Hancock, Harrison, Marion, Marshall, Monongalia, Ohio, Pleasants, Preston, Ritchie, Taylor, Tucker, Tyler, Wetzel, Wirt and Wood counties under the watch.
According to NWS meteorologists, “Cold front exits east of the Appalachians late this evening, with lingering light showers ending by midnight. Surface high pressure builds from the north tonight into Sunday providing light to calm flow and mostly clear skies.
“An extended stretch of hot and dry weather will begin Sunday and last much of next week.”
There are expected to be at least five straight days in the 90s.
