Herd rallies to top FAU 7-3

BECKLEY, W.Va.— Marshall’s offense waited till its final two at-bats to come to life. Marshall plated seven runs in the seventh and eighth innings to top FAU 7-3 and earn its third conference series win of the season.

Robert Fajardo was 2-for-4 with three RBI and Aaron Bossi went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

“It feels good to come through like this,” Bossi said. “I’ve had a slow start, but its good to get the ball rolling and build my confidence like this.”

Trailing 2-0 heading into the seventh, The Herd rally started with back to back singles from Aaron Bossi and Matt Reed to put runners on the corners with just one out. Robert Fajardo drove home the tying runs with a double to left field. Fajardo finished the day 2-4 with three RBI in the series clinching win.

The Herd put the game away in the eighth aided by four FAU errors in the inning. With two runners on and two our, Bossi singled to left plating the go-ahead run. However, a throwing error allowed a second run to score and Marshall had a 4-2 lead. The Owls’ mistakes would continue. The next batter, Matt Reed reached base thanks to an FAU error and allowed Bossi to score. Fajardo followed with another single, bringing Reed around to score and a tie ball game was suddenly a five-run Marshall lead.

Starting pitcher Matt Margaritonda didn’t factor into the decision but put together another quality start. Margaritonda tossed seven strong innings, scattering seven hits and allowing a pair of earned runs.

“We have half the season left, and with the way our team battles with adversity, it’s going to be a great year for the Herd.”

The Herd is now 7-6 in C-USA and will go for the sweep Sunday afternoon.
