MORGANTOWN. W.Va. — Even as West Virginia’s offense built tempo late in the final week of spring practice, defensive coordinator Tony Gibson saw what he wanted to see: Players who were aligned, aware and alert.
That’s the perk of having eight starters returning, players who seem to have adapted to the schematic tweaks Gibson implemented since Keith Patterson left for Arizona State.
“We saw our kids make big strides in the spring,” Gibson said. “From practice No. 1 to 15, obviously we’ve gotten better.
“We wanted to find our best 11 and then we wanted to find our next 11, and I think we’ve got a pretty good grasp on that.”
