HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—It’s just another check mark on the list of goals for the 2013 season. That’s why there wasn’t too much celebration of Marshall picking up its sixth win of the season and becoming bowl eligible for the second time in Doc Holliday’s tenure.
There are bigger things to accomplish for The Herd.
“It feels good but our standards are much higher. I want to play for a championship game,” said quarterback Rakeem Cato.
His teammates echoed those same sentiments following the 56-14 win over UAB.
“We got bowl eligible so that’s out of the way but we’re thinking about winning a conference championship,” asserted center Chris Jasperse.
Marshall is yet to reach the conference title game since it joined the league and wants to change that this season. To do so it must win its final three games, two of which are on the road.
“It feels good to achieve one of the goals we set for this year,” said Essray Taliaferro but says a bowl game won’t feel as good if Marshall leaves one its goals on the table.
That’s why none of the players were celebrating the achievement just yet. In fact, Marshall may be starting to click. At least Tommy Shuler thinks so.
“We’re just warming up right now,” said Shuler. “I feel like everybody knows their roles and everybody is clicking right now.”
