HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — When Marshall takes the floor Saturday against West Virginia in the Capital Classic it will do so without leading scorer Elijah Pittman, who has been suspended indefinitely.

The Marshall athletics department made the announcement through a release Monday afternoon and said it would have no further comment on the issue.

Pittman was averaging 21.4 points per game but was benched for most of the second half in The Herd’s 90-77 loss to Penn State on Saturday. Pittman was just 14-for-42 from the field and 5-of-24 from 3-point range during the last two games and 10-of-28 at the free-throw line over the past three games. He was also ejected in the early going against Western Kentucky for throwing an elbow in face of a WKU player.

Pittman was the only returning starter from a 2012-13 roster that was purged in the offseason and revamped coming to this year’s campaign.

Marshall is set to take on WVU Saturday night at the Charleston Civic Center at 7:30 p.m.

i would be impressed if they played penn state in football than basketball. but i guess teams like rice, uab, so. miss and so forth is big time to marshall in football. basketball?.....hmmmmmm, same thing!

That is too bad, based on his recent performance I think it would have benefited WVU if he would have played

What conference has the most player arrests every year??? SEC. Guess they have to take chances on players too. Just check the Fulmer Cup site.

Marshall football and basketball players seem to get in a lot of trouble.

Almost as much as WVU. http://wvmetronews.com/2013/12/03/mountaineer-football-player-arrested/

No, I definitely think Marshall is winning this contest.

I don't think so...it is close. WVU may have the edge the last few years. It's an easy google search.

Well it's about time. You couls see this coming. I hope we have learned that guys that nobody else will take, it is usually for a valid reason.

    • Jason

You mean. Like Randy Moss? Marshall has to roll the dice on guys with baggage...some work out and some don't. It is what it is.

Pizza delivery guys get nevous every time it is Marshall signing day

        • Jason

Well, three incoming freshman throwing a pizza guy to the ground and taking the pizza and cash is probably a step down from the armed robbery playbook of WVU upperclassmen Korey Harris or Branko Busick...but I guess we may be splitting hairs here. Point is, those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
