Postal Service tries to regain ground

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — In an age of electronic media, the United States Postal Service is determined to keep direct mailings relevant. Tuesday the Appalachian/Greater Kanawha Valley Postal Customer Council got together in Charleston at the main post office downtown for their annual meeting.

Misty Osborne, Appalachian District Marketing for the USPS, said the goal is to let business owners learn more about direct marketing and how it can help their company grow.

“Small businesses and large businesses alike can learn from postal experts about marketing through the mail. They can find new resources for obtaining mailing lists, their printing and data base management,” explained Osborne. They can also connect with other mailers, printers who provide quality printing through grand format flatbed printers, and other business services.

Even though more and more people are looking at on line at advertising, direct mail is still an $800 billion industry. This is National PCC Week. The goal is to reach out to as many new businesses as possible.

“It provides information and best practices for cost effective, profitable mailings,” stressed Osborne. “It provides education and training. We help to solve local challenges that small business mailers may run into as well as large business mailers.”

The meeting also gave PCC members a chance to talk to postal service managers, ask questions and make suggestions when it comes to direct mail.
