CPS worker pleads guilty to sex charges involving teenage client

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A caseworker with Child Protective Services in Kanawha County will be sentenced in November for having a sexual relationship with a teenager who was one of her clients at the time.

On Wednesday, Kara Brumley, 32, of Pinch, plead guilty in Kanawha County Circuit Court to two counts of felony abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian or person in a position of trust.

She admitted to engaging in sexual acts with the boy, 16, in April and May of this year while she was serving as his caseworker.

Brumley was first charged in May. At that time, officials with the state Department of Health and Human Resources said they were conducting their own internal investigation.

Brumley faces more than ten years behind bars when she’s sentenced on Nov. 21.
