Lumberport council member arrested on sexual assault charges

LUMBERPORT, W. Va. — A town official in Harrison County has been arrested on multiple allegations involving the sexual assault of underage females, some accusations dating back several decades.

David Junior Markley, 64, a member of Lumberport town council, was apprehended by authorities Saturday.

He is charged with one count of sexual abuse by a parent or guardian, one count of first degree sexual assault, one count of first degree sexual assault involving sexual intrusion, one count of second degree sexual assault and one count of incest. All charges are considered felonies.

The alleged acts occurred between 1984 and November 28 with at least three females as young as 5 and as old as 16.

Markley is being held in North Central Regional Jail with bail set at $125,000.
