MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Watching AMC’s 8-part series “The American West” might give Eastern Panhandle residents déjà vu.
That’s because the majority of settings for the television series, which spans the years of 1865 and 1890 in the aftermath of the Civil War, were filmed in Berkeley and Jefferson counties.
Martinsburg-Berkeley County Convention and Visitors Bureau’s executive director Laura Gassler has said that the numerous filming projects across the area over the last several years have been a real economic driver.
“In West Virginia you think coal, you think fracking,” Gassler said filming isn’t necessarily an industry that comes to mind.
“For the Eastern Panhandle, it’s really been great,” she said.
The latest series will air June 11 at 10:00 p.m.
