United Steel Workers Union says Clarksburg company owes locked out workers thousands in back wages

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — The United Steel Workers Union claims that Europtec USA now owes more than $200,000 in back pay to the 29 workers they “illegally locked out” ten weeks ago.

The Union has cited a favorable National Labor Relations Board ruling at the end of August, claiming the company violated federal labor laws when they failed to notify workers in advance of the impending lockout.

The company locked out 29 union workers from the Clarksburg glass manufacturing site on July 11.

According to the USW, the Union and Europtec USA last met on September 1. Additional bargaining is next scheduled for October 5.

A USW rep has said that Europtec has already expressed no interest in changing their current contract propsoal, which they claim calls for sweeping concessions on the part of Union workers.

A company spokesperson chose not to comment to MetroNews on the ongoing lockout.

A United Steel Workers Union representative said the NLRB has made their feelings on the lockout clear to both parties.

The previous labor agreement expired in October 2015.
