MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A day of swimming on Cheat Lake turned tragic when a 20-year-old man dove into the water and subsequently drown Monday.
Friends told Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department responders the man jumped from rocks and did not resurface.
After friends tried unsuccessfully to rescue the man, emergency crews arrived on scene around 3 p.m. Witnesses said the man had been in the water for about 10 minutes before 911 was called.
Rescuers pull the man from the water and attempted CPR.
The man’s name was not immediately released.
