Former Ole Miss commit Blaine Scott picks West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Rivals three-star offensive lineman Blaine Scott committed to West Virginia on Thursday over offers from Florida, Penn State, Miami, Michigan State, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina and Pitt.

A 6-foot-4, 299-pound prospect from Portsmouth, Ohio, Scott decommitted from Ole Miss last summer when the NCAA infractions case heated up resulting in the removal of head coach Hugh Freeze.

“Scott looks college-ready now,” said Rivals writer Keenan Cummings. “He is going to need a little time in the weight room, but he physically is ready to play if needed and it’s easy to see how he has collected so many scholarship offers.”

The third offensive line pledge in the 2018 recruiting class, Scott visited Morgantown for the East Carolina game and was essentially sold. He told Rivals he plans to graduate from Sciotoville East High School in December and enroll early at WVU

Scott projects as a guard, like fellow commit Briason Mays of Bolivar, Tenn. (Recruit Oyenmwen Uzebu shapes up as an offensive tackle.)

Scott gives West Virginia 18 commitments and its second in 24 hours after tight end T.J. Banks joined Wednesday. The Mountaineers subsequently lost a recruit when Chicago tight end TJ Ivy decommitted Thursday.
