Lawmakers in Charleston for interim committee meetings

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Members of the state legislature will be in Charleston Sunday through Tuesday for monthly interim committee meetings at the state capitol.

Thirty-one meetings are scheduled over the three-day period.

The legislature’s Joint Committee on Finance is scheduled to get a budget update Monday morning. The committee will also hear from state Department of Health and Human Secretary Bill Crouch on appropriations for opioid addiction.

The Joint Standing Committee on Energy is scheduled to hear a presentation on severance taxes from representatives of the coal and natural industries during a Monday afternoon meeting.

State Adjutant General James Hoyer is on the agenda of the Joint Committee on Flooding for its Tuesday morning meeting. Hoyer will be giving an update on the RISE West Virginia long-term flood recovery program.

The meetings will be the first time the House of Delegates has conducted business since Del. Roger Hanshaw, R-Clay, was elected the new speaker of the House last month.
