Update: Lewisburg Walmart reopens after earlier evacuation

LEWISBURG, W.Va. –The Walmart in Lewisburg reopened Thursday afternoon, following a report of a suspicious package in the shopping cart area that led to an evacuation of the store, earlier in the day.

According to dispatchers, a call about a suspicious package was placed at 9:17 a.m. Police responded to the scene, isolated the package and restricted the area.

A bomb technician later determined the contents of the package were blankets.

Lewisburg Police Chief C.J. Tuebert said the evacuation was ordered out of an “abundance of caution.”

West Virginia State Police, the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department, and the Lewisburg Fire Department also responded to the scene.
