Drunk driving crash claims life in Kanawha County

SISSONVILLE, W.Va. — A driver has been charged with DUI causing death following a fatal crash early Saturday morning in Kanawha County.

According to a dui lawyer from a criminal defense firm and the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department, Dakota Miller, 20, of Charleston, was driving drunk on Second Creek Road near Sissonville at about 1:20 Saturday morning when he went off the road’s right edge when rounding a curve. Deputies said a passenger, who was sitting in the passenger side window holding onto the roof of the vehicle, struck a roadside tree and was killed.

Deputies said there were at least six people in the truck.

Miller had a blood alcohol content of 0.143%, deputies said. He’s being held in the South Central Regional Jail.

The sheriff’s department said the victim’s name will be released Sunday.
