CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Both West Virginia Air National Guard airlift wings will be participating in flyover events Wednesday to honor health care workers who have been on the frontline during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Martinsburg-based 167th Airlift Wing will take one of its C-17 aircraft over West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle and into Western Maryland.
The first flyover for the 167th will be at Berkeley Medical Center at 10 a.m. It will be over Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg by 10:30 a.m., Hampshire Memorial Hospital in Romney 10 minutes later at 10:40 a.m. The circuit will end at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg at 10:55 a.m.
The 167th’s flyover will be extended to the Morgantown area but times were unavailable Tuesday evening.
The Charleston-based 130th Airlift Wing will fly one of its C-130 aircraft over 22 health care facilities Wednesday beginning at CAMC Teays Valley in Putnam County at 11:05 a.m. and ending at Family Care Center in St. Albans at 1:24 p.m. The crew’s circuit will include passes through Cabell, Mason, Jackson, Roane, Braxton, Nicholas, Greenbrier, Summers, Mercer, McDowell, Logan, Boone, Raleigh, Fayette and Kanawha counties.
State Adjutant General, Major General, Jim Hoyer said no state money will be spent on the flyovers. 
“This is part of our training regime and being able to coordinate training in the flyovers to be sure that we use the appropriate DOD (Department of Defense) dollars to maintain the readiness of our air crews going forward and at the same time honor those folks on the frontlines,” Hoyer said.
