Prison Time In Hunting Death

A Pennsylvania man will spend five years in prison for killing a hunter in Lewis County and leaving the scene of the crime.

Robert Tobias, 58, of Millersburg was sentenced Wednesday to serve five years for wanton endangerment with a firearm. He also received concurrent sentences of one year for negligible shooting causing death and 100 days for failing to render aid. He previously pleaded no contest to the charges.

Tobias accidentally shot and killed 32-year old Shawn Stewart on the first day of spring gobbler season last April. They both were hunting near Stonewall Jackson Lake.

Tobias didn’t come forward immediately, but a piece of hunting clothing lead State Troopers to him.
