Marshal women’s golfer Allison Harper (Upper Arlington, Ohio) tied for 26th place after shooting a 75 in the third and final round of the Conference USA Women’s Golf Championship at Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club on Tuesday afternoon. Harper helped lead the Thundering Herd surpass UAB for a ninth place finish, shooting its lowest round of the week, a 304.
Harper who concluded her first Conference USA Championship with a 232 (77-80-75=232), was five strokes back from finishing in the top-10. The freshman concludes her opening season at Marshall with a 77.3 stroke average, setting a new Lady Herd record.
Rachel Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio) shot a 76 in third round action to move up two spots and tie for 30th. The freshman finished three strokes behind Harper with a 235 (77-82-76=235).
Samantha DiDomenico (Follansbee, W.Va.) tied her season-low with a 73 in the final round of play. She finished the tournament with a 244 (84-87-73=244).
Molly Ginger (Centerville, Ohio) concluded her final collegiate tournament one stroke behind DiDomenico with a three-day total of 245 (78-80-87=245).
Kaci Boyd (Ashland, Ky.) shot her lowest round of the tournament on day three, 80, to combine for a 54-hole total of 260 (89-91-80=260).
UTEP held on to its lead despite Tulsa’s tournament low-round of 296. The Miners shot a 300 in the third round and a 904 overall (302-302-300=904) to walk away with the victory. The Green Wave, who entered the day in sixth place, finished in second place thanks to Tuesday’s performance.
UTEP’s Teresa Nogues responded to Monday’s 75, carding a 72 on Tuesday to surpass Memphis’s Marissa Steen for the individual medal.
“The Championships were exciting, not just one team ran away with it this year,” head coach Meredith Knight Rowsey said. “I wish we would have shown up in the earlier rounds like we did today but to play like we did on the final round we showed ourselves and our opponents that we will be a team to be reckoned with in the future.”
Ginger’s 73 at the Lady Bison Fall Classic was her career-low, helping the Thundering Herd to a fifth place finish. The Centerville, Ohio native, finished her senior season with an 82.0 average and concluded her career on Tuesday with a 80.6 scoring average.
