The WVSSAC has released the new classifications for high schools throughout the state which will go into effect starting for the 2012-2013 season and go through 2015-2016.
Looking at some of the changes, Pt. Pleasant, Oak Hill and Shady Spring will all be moving from Class AA to Class AAA. Pt. Pleasant will be the smallest school in the class with 782 students – a gap of over 1,000 students to the state’s largest enrollment of Cabell Midland (1,857 students).
Schools moving from Class AAA down to Class AA include Nicholas County, North Marion, Bridgeport, Robert C. Byrd, East Fairmont and Fairmont Senior. Berkeley Springs will be the highest Class AA school with 777 students and Summers County will have the lowest enrollment numbers at 434 students.
No schools from Class A will be moving up to Class AA – however, five schools from AA will drop down to Class A. Greenbrier West, Magnolia, Tug Valley, Sherman and Tyler Consolidated will all be in Class A. Greenbrier West will have the highest enrollment numbers in the class at 428 students.
