Cameron and Tucker County have been two of the more successful Class A football programs over the last five years.
The direction the teams take for what remains of the 2026 season could largely be based on the outcome of Friday’s matchup between the No. 8 Dragons and No. 13 Mountain Lions with the squads set to clash at 7 p.m. at R.H. Armstrong Memorial Stadium in Parsons in the MetroNews Television Game of the Week. Pregame coverage starts at 6:30 p.m.
Cameron (2-1) is looking to bounce back from its first loss, while Tucker County (2-2) tries to go above the .500 mark for the first time this season.

Three keys to watch factor Friday:
- Tackling
A youthful Mountain Lions’ team has allowed 74 points in two losses and 20 in two victories. Getting hats to the ball in an effort to swarm tackle will be imperative against Cameron, which has a quarterback-tailback tandem that’s tough to contain in Soier Reed and Marshall Holland.
- Third down success rate
The Dragons totaled 90 points over their first two contests before being held to 20 last week in a loss to River (Ohio). Staying ahead of the sticks and avoiding third down altogether was important in victories against Clay-Battelle and Valley to start the season.
On the flip side, the Mountain Lions have yet to break out offensively, scoring between 14 and 22 points all four of their games. First and second-down success will be critical to Tucker, which needs to avoid unfavorable distances on third downs for its best chance at sustaining drives against a Dragons’ defense that limited its first two opponents to a total of six points.
- Field position
Cameron made a statement when it opened the season with a 42-0 win at defending Class A runner-up Clay-Battelle — the same team that eliminated the Dragons in a state semifinal in 2025.
While the Dragons were dominant along both lines of scrimmage and in numerous facets throughout that game, their special teams helped to provide a spark as well.
Reed returned a punt 46 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter of that game, and while it’s not the norm to have a quarterback also serving as a punt returner, his shiftiness and speed makes it that much tougher on opposing punters and coverage units.
Tucker, meanwhile, would benefit greatly from winning the field position battle as the Mountain Lions’ offense hasn’t consistently moved the ball at the rate it hopes to thus far.
