Former Mountaineer Rifle Team member Nicco Campriani today won the men’s 50-meter three position rifle event at the London Olympic Games.   Campriani not only won the gold, but shot the best ever in the event with a final score of 1,278.5.

Campriani, shooting for his native Italy, blistered the qualifying round with a record score of 1,180 in the preliminaries. 

Campriani won the silver last week for Italy in the 10-meter air rifle event.  He was the 2011 NCAA Air Rifle Champion for the Mountaineers.

–Head Rifle Coach Jon Hammond is shooting for his native Great Britain

–Former WVU shooter Eric Uptagrafft is a member of Team USA. 

–Former WVU Coach Dave Johnson is the coach of Team USA.

–Current Mountaineer Shooter Petra Zublasing was 12th in the women’s 50-meter three-position event.   She also finished 12th in the women’s air rifle event in London.
