A West Virginia senator is calling for a hearing to review the current state of pipeline safety following the December 11 Sissonville pipeline explosion.
Senator Jay Rockefeller, Chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, announced Monday plans to hold a field hearing in Charleston on pipeline safety on January 28.
In the hearing, Rockefeller plans to review the Department of Transportation’s implementation of the Pipeline Safety, Regulatory Certainty, and Job Creation Act of 2011, which became law last January.
A review of the findings from a Government Accountability Office study about the ability of transmission pipeline facility operators to respond to a hazardous liquid or gas release will also be conducted during the hearing.
Results from the study are expected to be in by January 23.
Pipeline safety has been a priority to Rockefeller in his four years as Chairman.
