A press release from West Virginia Secretary of State Natalie Tennant shows the 2012 General Election official turnout was 55 percent.
According to the release, a total of 685,099 ballots were cast out of 1,246,559 West Virginians who were registered to vote in the election.
Of that total, 150,666 ballots were cast during the early voting period.
The release reported there were 664,347 ballots cast in the race for Governor, 643,582 cast in the race for Attorney General, 638,440 cast in the race for Secretary of State, 628,483 cast in the race for Treasurer, 619,468 cast in the race for Auditor, and 613,583 cast in the race for Commissioner of Agriculture.
Pocahontas County had the highest turnout in the state at nearly 72 percent. Barbour, Harrison, Jefferson, Lewis, Marshall, Mineral, Morgan, Putnam, Tucker, and Wood Counties all had voter turnout of over 60 percent. Calhoun County had the lowest turnout at 40 percent.
Kanawha County, who had the greatest number of ballots cast, had a turnout of 56 percent.
