It’s all downhill at Canaan Valley Resort State Park in Tucker County.
This week’s colder temperatures and precipitation are bringing more people out to go slipping and sliding at the new Canaan Valley Tube Park.
“Oh man, it’s awesome,” Park Assistant Superintendent Stan Beafore tells MetroNews of the expanded tubing area that includes more than ten lanes, doubling Canaan Valley’s tubing capacity.
Stretching for 1,200 feet, Beafore says they’re now offering longer runs than any other tubing park in the Mid Atlantic Region. In addition, the park has a “magic carpet,” so those who travel down the hill on a tube can get a ride back up to top. There is also a warming hut.
“It’s much for convenient. Everything’s new. It’s just an awesome facility,” Beafore said.
The expanded tubing park, though, accounts for just part of the $36 million in total renovations underway at Canaan Valley. Those improvements include the following:
– The snowmaking system has been upgraded for the 2013 Winter Season.
– There is a new beginner ski slope with dedicated teaching areas and a “magic carpet” for beginners.
– The base facilities have been upgraded to include more warning areas.
– Repairs have been made to ski lifts and the ski patrol building has been improved.
Work on 160 new rooms, being added to the conference center, is expected to be finished by August.
“It’s really exciting. There’s a lot of great stuff happening here at Canaan Valley,” Beafore told MetroNews.
