Charleston Mayor Danny Jones is revoking the business permit for Impulse, a nightclub in Downtown Charleston.
Mayor Jones said the business was issued a conditional use permit in 2007 when its owners pitched plans to open an upscale place. He said they did not fulfill their end of the bargain.
“I think we have seen it’s not an upscale club and we’ve reached the end of the line,” said Jones.
Ever since the club got the conditional license, it’s been a problem spot for Charleston Police.
The latest incident came this past weekend when a University of Charleston student was stabbed outside of the club.
Jones said without a conditional use permit, the club cannot have a liquor or beer license. He said it’s just time for the club to disappear.
“We’ve had enough,” said Jones. “We want the place closed. We hope they go away.”
Those with Impulse can appeal to Charleston’s Board of Zoning Appeals.
Mayor Jones said from now on anyone else wanting a conditional use permit in the downtown are will have to have an industrial kitchen as part of the operation.
“Then I know they are up to something good,” said Jones.
