New leader chosen for West Virginia Ethics Commission

The General Counsel for the West Virginia Ethics Commission will be its new Executive Director.

Joan Parker was selected to replace former Director Theresa Kirk on Thursday.  It was a unanimous decision.

Parker was first hired as Deputy General Counsel for the West Virginia Ethics Commission in January 2006.

Also on Thursday, those with the Ethics Commission hired former Kanawha County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Maryclaire Akers as the new General Counsel.

Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Plants recently fired Akers.  She had worked in the Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office since 1999.
