U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller supports John Brennan as the new Director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
The Senate voted to approve the appointment Thursday in Washington D.C.
In a statement released Thursday in response to the confirmation, Rockefeller says Brennan is the right person for the job.
“He has a deep knowledge of intelligence and counterterrorism issues. He is a confidant and trusted advisor to the President,” said Rockefeller. “He has been a career CIA officer who knows and understands how the CIA operates.”
In addition Rockefeller, a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and the former chairman, adds that Brennan understands the CIA’s strengths and weaknesses and knows how to fix the problems the agency currently has.
In his statement, Rockefeller says he is happy to see Brennan take the position.
“It’s good news for our country that the filibuster against John Brennan’s nomination is over and that he is now confirmed,” said Rockefeller. “I have high expectations for John in this new role, and I look forward to working with him.”
Brennan previously served as assistant to the President for homeland security and counterterrorism.
