Two players who have seen significant time have left the Marshall football program as spring drills begin. Defensive tackle Marques Aiken and receiver Jermaine Kelson have left the team.
Two-year starter Marques Aiken is graduating this spring and decided to forego his fifth season with The Herd. Aiken tallied 37 tackles last season including 6.5 tackles for loss and two sacks.
Kelson saw his production drop off in 2012. As a sophomore, Kelson hauled in 23 passes for 203 yards but last season made just seven catches in 11 games. Holliday cited “personal reasons” for Kelson’s departure.
The Thundering Herd will take the field for the start of spring practice this week and with the familiar Kelly green practice jerseys but there will be the usual smattering of blue and red jerseys as well. It always seems there are a few more players being restricted in the spring than necessary but there’s no need to get someone injured during four weeks of spring drills and risk losing them when it really counts in the fall.
At least ten players will be donning the red “no contact” jerseys during spring drills. Doc Holliday told Herdzone.com’s Jack Bogaczyk some of those players will practice but will be limited.
