MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A hair salon chain with locations across the country, including several in West Virginia, will again be giving vouchers for free haircuts to kids in need ahead of the start of the new school year.
This year is the 14th year for Hair Cuttery’s Share-a-Haircut Program.
Throughout August, Hair Cuttery will donate a free haircut for every haircut purchased in a salon for a child or teenager under the age of 18.
“At the end of the program, we are able to work with a lot of social service agencies and non-profits that serve children and families and they distribute the free haircut certificates to the kids who need them,” said Hair Cuttery Director of Community Relations Diane Daly.
She said the goal is to donate more than 100,000 vouchers for back-to-school haircuts this year.
“It’s really one of those things that most people don’t think about, but we know it’s an important part of the back-to-school ritual,” said Daly of the importance of good hair for school. You can view this page for more information.
She said the average family spends $688 on preparations before school starts. “Not everybody can afford to do that,” she said.
There are Hair Cuttery locations in Berkeley County and Jefferson County along with those in areas near West Virginia’s borders with Virginia and Maryland.
