Officers say they found two children, dogs living in deplorable conditions in Mingo County home

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — Two Mingo County women are accused of having two children live in deplorable conditions.

Sharon Simpson

A criminal complaint filed in Mingo County magistrate court says Christi Hatfield, 36, and her mother Sharon Simpson, 63, both of Williamson, were charged Tuesday following an investigation at Simpson’s home.

Officers said they found two children living inside the home among human and animal waste on the floor and in bedding. One of the children was described as being incapacitated and had trouble moving their lower extremities.

Officers also discovered four emaciated dogs in the apartment on West 4th Avenue in Williamson Tuesday. They said the animals did not have sufficient food and water.

According to jail records, Simpson is charged with gross child neglect, disorderly conduct, animal cruelty and obstructing an officer. Hatfield is charged with the same charges and with providing false information.

Simpson’s bond is set at $70,000 while Hatfield is being held on a $75,000 bond.
