Police trying to find who shot Roane County elementary school window

ROANE COUNTY, W.Va. — West Virginia State Police are trying to identify who shot out a window at Geary Elementary and Middle School in Left Hand early Sunday morning.

Roane County Schools Superintendent Jerry Garner said at around 1:23 a.m. someone shot a window in one of the main entrance doors, destroying a full sheet of glass. A bullet was discovered in the school Sunday afternoon.

Garner said police were at the school Sunday and Monday to determine the cause, but don’t expect anything besides vandalism.

“They found the remains of the bullet in the school. It didn’t do any damage inside the school building at all, just the glass on the door that was shot,” said Garner.

Garner said no one was hurt, but some students did not attend school Monday. He said there were roughly 86 students absent from Geary on Monday. The district had police at the school as a precaution.

“One of our deputies is staying all day long at the school and will be back again tomorrow just to ease the minds of parents,” said Garner.

According to police, there are no suspects at this time.
